LEVI’S® VINTAGE SUNDAY RETURNS TO JOZI IN AUGUST

Levi's® Vintage Sunday’s will be returning to Jozi for two sessions during the month of August. After its hugely successful Sunday night jaunts in Cape Town for the months of June and July, Levi's® Vintage Sundays brought the ever-increasing crowd an eclectic array of South Africa’s hottest live talent. And now in Newtown it’s all the musical talent you could wish for absolutely free. So extend your weekend for a few more hours, and come down to get down to the music. SAMA award winning Lira, voted Best Female Artist of the year, gets things off to a soulful start on the 23rd August. This inspiring individual has an incredible voice and phenomenal stage presence to deliver a vocal-laden trip through the worlds of contemporary jazz and seductive ballads. Pure modern brilliance with a sense of ancient soul. Then there’s Fifi, the new queen of the crop. A voice for the now generation, she builds her sermons on the proud and powerful pillars of hip hop, yet she’s so much more. With an incisively conscious eye she captures the world around her and transforms it into rhymes with reason. Blessed with a rare mixture of fine talent and wicked insight, Fifi’s angle is always obscure and impossible to copy. One week later on the 30th August the Taiwa Jazz Band, the highest rated band in Gauteng performs indigenous music using contemporary instruments. This nine-piece band of musicians between the ages of 10 and 25 love jazz delivers on the many possibilities the genre presents. Expect everything from sweet ballads to up-tempo dance numbers. Next up, Marcus Wyatt is the shining star in the sky of contemporary South African Jazz. His sound is subtle yet steamy, and the freshness and honesty of his lyrical approach is one of the reasons why this country can boast a certain vitality in their jazz scene. A performance by Paul Hanmer rounds up this Jazz fest. This piano master’s compositions vary from romantic to funky jazz. Soothing and melodious, the songs are peaceful, contemplative journeys through the South African landscape.
